Assessment efforts in Student and Campus Life have been sporadic in previous years and were often determined by pressing student or institutional needs. The office and other college departments are now in the process of developing assessment plans that tie directly into strategic planning at the institutional level and support the instructional goals for student learning at Central Oregon Community College.
General Education Outcomes include:
1. Analyze, interpret and synthesize ideas and information. 2. Speak, read, write and listen effectively. 3. Use computer technology to gather, process and communicate information. 4. Apply scientific inquiry to arrive at informed conclusions. 5. Engage in informed discussion of the meaning and value of aesthetic expression. 6. Evaluate the ethical dimensions of arguments and consequences of decisions. 7. Explain how cultural context shapes human perceptions and values. 8. Apply appropriate mathematics to analyze and solve problems. 9. Identify responsible health and safety behaviors.
It is the intention of the Student Life Office and the Campus Life Committee to support the General Educational Outcomes by providing student services and programs that address student learning and development within these nine areas. The first effort to do just that will be demonstrated in the Winter 2007 Indicators. As the Institutional Strategic Plan evolves, so too will the efforts to assess student and campus life at Central Oregon Community College. Student Services outcomes are also described in standard three of the 2002 Accreditation Report.
