Athletic Performance Profile

Individual    $ 169.00
4 or more   $ 149.00
15 or more $ 115.00

Includes VO2 max for specific sport, body composition, lactate analysis, metabolic cart, and up to 45 minute interpretation of results conducted in person.

The VO2 max test can be accomplished with hiking, running, cycling on a trainer or stationary bicycle, ski pole walking, rowing, or arm cranking. The client is fitted with a heart rate monitor and small mask that covers the mouth and nose. The mask is attached to a metabolic analyzer that will read ventilatory values. The test starts with an easy built in warm up stage and then every three minutes during the test, a lactate (blood) sample is drawn from the finger, heart rate and perceived exertion are recorded, and the intensity of the test is increased. Upon reaching the maximum heart rate and/or peak values the client is asked to stop. The client may stop the test at any time for any reason should he or she feel the need. The client will perform a 4 minute cool-down period following the test and then one last heart rate and lactate will be recorded. Lactate (anaerobic) threshold will then be determined by graphing blood lactic acid, ventilation, & true O2 deflection points, as well as looking at rating of perceived exertion (RPE) and the respiratory exchange ratio. From knowing the lactate threshold, the physiologist can determine accurate individual heart rate training zones and determine where the client needs to focus his/her exercise training efforts. The goal of the testing is to apply the data obtained to determine how the current training program has affected fitness and then to modify or develop a new training program that improves efficiency, enhances performance, and makes training more fun. Body composition is assessed via skinfold calipers and inclusive in the price of the athletic profile. Hydrostatic weighing is available for an additional charge.

Conditioning/Fitness Evaluation
The ergometer is a stationary bicycle used in a 6 minute test. The test consists of the testee riding the stationary ergometer at 50 rpm, at a particular load. A heart rate monitor is used to give an indication of whether the load is appropriate for the person being tested. If the desired heart rate is not achieved in the first two minutes the load is increased. This test gives an indication of fitness, and is not appropriate for an elite athlete. The body composition is done with a three site pinch test using the Lange calipers and the hydrostatic tank for a comparison.

Condition/Fitness Evaluation - $75.00 (4 or more - $65 each)

Body Composition
The body composition is done with a three sight skin fold pinch test using the Lange caliper, and the hydrostatic tank. To accomplish the underwater weighing the testee is asked the kneel on an area of the tank, blow out all of the air in the lungs, and completely submerge themselves underwater for a matter of 1 or 2 seconds. When both tests are accomplished they are compared.

There is a 2% to 3% margin of error with the skinfold test. As for the tank, it depends on how much air is blown out of the lungs, and whether the athlete is comfortable under water without air in the lungs.

Body Composition- $45.00 (4 or more = $40 each, 10 or more - $35 each)
