OLI Harassment Policy

Purpose
It is the policy of the Oregon Council for Hispanic Advancement (OCHA) and the Oregon Leadership Institute (OLI) to maintain a learning environment that is free from unlawful harassment. Everyone involved in OLI has the right to participate in an atmosphere that is free from all forms of conduct that can be considered harassing, coercive or disruptive.

Policy
It is a violation of OCHA policy for any participant in any OCHA program to harass any other participant or staff member through conduct or communication, as defined below, while involved in any OLI activity, regardless of location.

Definition of Harassment
a) Sexual Harassment:
Sexual advancement, request for sexual favor, sexual comment, cartoon, innuendo, and other oral, written, or physical conduct of a sexual nature which is unwelcome or uninvited and is directed by a person (male or female) toward another student, staff member, or other person is prohibited.

b) Harassment for Reason of Race, Religion, Ethnic Origin or Disability:
Harassment in the form of slurs or other harassment based on race, religion, ethnic origin, or disability (physical, mental or sensory). A slur is a type of harassment and is defined as any derogatory action such as a remark, word, joke, picture, or gesture referencing or directed to any individual or group(s) which is of a racial, ethnic, religious, or disability nature.

c) Other Harassment:
Other harassment is also prohibited and is defined as intimidating another person in a way that relates to a person’s race, religion, ethnic origin, sexual orientation or disability, causes physical injury, or by words or conduct places that person in fear of harm to his/her person or property or causes disruptive conduct.

Reporting
Individuals who believe they are being harassed should report the situation to an OLI staff member or to the OCHA Leadership Director immediately.

Confidentiality
Because of the sensitive nature of the complaints of harassment, all complaints will be investigated, to the greatest extent possible, to protect the privacy of all involved.
